How to Use PBD
PBD — Personal Bitcoin Dominance — helps you understand exactly where your Bitcoin stack sits relative to the total supply that will ever exist, and how you compare to every other holder on Earth. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.
① Your Bitcoin Stack
- Self-Custody BTC — Bitcoin held in hardware wallets, cold storage, or any wallet where you control the private keys. Use up to 8 decimal places (satoshis).
- Exchange-Held BTC — Bitcoin held on an exchange or custodial service (e.g. Coinbase, Kraken, Swan) where a third party controls the keys. Both fields combine into your total spot BTC.
- ETF Shares — If you hold Bitcoin through an exchange-traded fund, select your fund from the toggle (IBIT, FBTC, ARKB, or Custom) and enter the number of shares you own. PBD automatically converts your shares to a BTC equivalent using each fund's current BTC-per-share ratio. These ratios are updated periodically as fund fees reduce the backing over time.
- Custom ETF — If you hold a fund not listed, select Custom and enter the BTC-per-share ratio manually. You can find this on your fund's official holdings page or prospectus.
- ETF conversion — Your share count is shown as a BTC equivalent beneath the fields, updating in real time as you type. This is the actual Bitcoin your ETF exposure represents, net of fees already deducted from the fund.
② Supply Toggle
In the top right of the hero, choose which supply figure to measure your dominance against:
- 21M Hard Cap — The maximum Bitcoin that will ever exist. The purist view — your dominance of the absolute scarcest monetary asset imaginable.
- ~19.8M Mined — Only Bitcoin actually mined as of March 2026. Slightly more generous since ~1.2M BTC remain to be mined over the coming century.
- ~17.5M Adjusted — Removes an estimated 3.3M BTC believed to be permanently lost (Satoshi's dormant wallets, early lost keys, burned coins). Arguably the most honest measure of real-world dominance.
③ The Hero Number
The large percentage at the top is your Personal Bitcoin Dominance — your total stack as a share of whichever supply you've selected, expressed to 8 decimal places. Even a seemingly tiny percentage represents extraordinary scarcity given Bitcoin's fixed supply.
④ Dashboard Stats
- Total BTC Stack — Your combined self-custody + exchange-held + ETF holdings in BTC, with a USD value calculated from the live Coinbase price feed.
- Dominance — Your hero percentage alongside the supply figure you've selected.
- BTC Portfolio % — What percentage of your total declared net worth is held in Bitcoin. Only populates once you've entered other asset values.
⑤ How You Stack Up
Tap the header to expand this collapsible panel. It shows your tier in the global Bitcoin holder distribution, based on on-chain data and Chainalysis estimates for approximately 106 million holders worldwide.
- Rank badge — Your current tier, emoji, and a plain-English description of what it means in context.
- Tier ladder — All eight tiers from Whale down to Shrimp. Your current tier is highlighted in gold. Tiers you've surpassed are dimmed.
- Progress bar — Shows how far you are toward the next tier, with the exact BTC needed to reach it.
The ten tiers, ordered by size:

- 🐋 Whale — 2–10 BTC · ~150K wallets · Top 0.15%

- 🦛 Hippo — 0.75–1 BTC · ~1M wallets · Top 1%
- 🐬 Dolphin — 0.5–0.75 BTC · ~3M wallets · Top 3%
- 🦦 Otter — 0.1–0.5 BTC · ~10M wallets · Top 10%
- 🪼 Jellyfish — 0.05–0.1 BTC · ~16M wallets · Top 15%
- 🦀 Crab — 0.01–0.05 BTC · ~30M wallets · Top 30%
- 🦐 Shrimp — less than 0.01 BTC · ~50M+ wallets
⑥ Stack Breakdown
Shows your self-custody BTC, exchange-held BTC, and ETF holdings as separate line items, each with a BTC amount and USD value at the current price. The total row confirms your combined stack. Only appears once holdings are entered.
⑦ Your Other Assets
Enter the estimated current value in USD of your other asset classes to unlock the Portfolio Composition panel. Two categories are available:
- Liquid / Financial — Stocks, bonds and CDs, cash and fiat.
- Hard Assets — Real estate (use equity, not gross value), precious metals, other crypto, and a catch-all Other field.
None of this data is transmitted anywhere. It lives only in your browser session and is not saved between visits.
⑧ Portfolio Composition
Once asset values are entered, a segmented bar chart shows your full portfolio allocation — Bitcoin vs every other asset class — with each category's dollar value and percentage of total net worth. The BTC Portfolio % stat in the hero also updates to reflect your Bitcoin allocation as a share of total wealth.
⑨ Mobile Navigation
On mobile, PBD uses a three-tab bottom navigation bar:
- Dashboard — The hero number, stats, How You Stack Up, and Stack Breakdown.
- Stack — Enter your self-custody BTC, exchange-held BTC, and ETF holdings here.
- Portfolio — Enter your other asset values here.
⑩ Privacy
PBD is entirely client-side. No data is ever sent to a server, stored in a database, or associated with your identity. The only external request PBD makes is to the Coinbase public API to fetch the current Bitcoin price — this does not include any of your holdings data. Closing the tab clears everything.
